Again, I had a hard time deciding what to do with this theme. I came across a video by Paula showing a technique called "ghosting". A term coined by Less.
I'm so proud I have the presence of mind to do the link-thing right now... ; )
Anyway, here's the page:

This is actually a fun technique, but I think I will use different colors next time. Here's how I did it:
- Coated the page with black acrylic paint.
- Took a couple of spray inks (dye-based, not alcohol) and a stencil, then randomly covered the page.
- Let dry completely, then painted circles with white acrylic paint.
- Within seconds, the "ghosting" appeared.
The circles reminded me of planets, so I painted them different colors. Unfortunately, the ghosting disappeared mostly. That's why I kept two white. I also tried to give the "planets" a little more depth, so I used colored pencils.
I found a cool image dressed in a seriously polka-dotted outfit and added him.
I think I goofed when I tried to glue the ribbon. Yuck. And the ink bled through the ribbon on the bottom. Sigh... o well.
Again, I think next time I will use different colored inks. I chose cranberry and egg plant, but the egg plant barely shows.
I noticed that when I wrote my quote, the "ghosting" happened through the white ink too. I think that was cool too.
Thought I would have some time to myself today, but apparently not. Everyone is leaving later in the day. D is trying to leave me alone and let me relax, but you know how that is...
I like it. Cool technique. Thought you worked on Saturday's??
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I especially like your writing in this picture very much. I seem to find such writing really difficult. You must have quite the gift for such things! The fact that your ghosting technique works even with your writing makes it all the more of interest.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try this soon myself!
Hope you'll find plenty of time to relax and kick back today!
xx

P.S. We may be able to add a second version of the cat you and I both like at a larger size later on. Try us in about an hour and a half.

Love that cat!
I really like this and I love that guy in the polka dots - he keeps drawing my eye in. As for the ghosting it reminds of that thing we used to do as kids coloring all different colors then painting black over it and the scraping of the black so the underneath colors showed through. Anyone remember that or am I showing my age?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your work process! I like the colours you worked with:D
ReplyDeleteThis is FABULOUS!
